Mature Cheddar and Crispy Bacon Biscuits

Shopping List

  • 150g grated mature cheddar.
  • 150g chopped bacon.
  • 150g softened unsalted butter.
  • 200g plain flour.
  • 2tsp mustard powder.
  • 2 egg yolks.
  • Splash of milk.
Preparation Time:- 20 minutes Cooking Time:- 15-18 minutes

It’s time, once again for this weeks Great British Bake Off inspired recipe! Last week was a super sweet caramel & pecan swiss roll. That recipe can be found here.

This week was all about biscuits! The signature bake was a cheesy affair, so sticking to the theme, this week I bring you mature cheddar and crispy bacon biscuits!


Preheat your oven to 180C and grate your cheese.


Fry off your bacon to optimum crispiness!


Put your plain flour, mustard powder and softened unsalted butter into a large bowl.


Time to get our hands dirty! Crumble together the flour, mustard powder and butter to make a loose breadcrumb consistency.


Bacon is looking super crispy now.


Take it off the heat and dry on kitchen towel, leaving to cool slightly.


To your breadcrumb mixture, mix in your cheese.


Then add in your fried bacon and egg yolks. Add in a splash of milk until your dough becomes workable.


Roll out your dough about 3mm thick onto a floured surface.


Cut out circles, squares or whatever shapes you would like. Prick your biscuits with a fork to release air when baking.

Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
